Step Afrika! electrified audiences at the Reynolds Performance Hall on February 4th and 5th, showcasing the vibrant art of stepping, a dance form rooted in African-American tradition. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the company combines traditional African dance with modern elements, captivating students with a blend of rhythm, storytelling, and audience interaction. The performance opened with "Tribute," featuring high-energy movements and intricate footwork, followed by "Ndlamu," which highlighted the beauty of African cultural attire and dance. "Isicathulo," the Gumboot dance, portrayed the resilience of South African miners through rhythmic communication. The show concluded with "Chicago," merging historical stepping with contemporary choreography, leaving the audience in awe. Schools across the state benefited from this engaging experience, with 946 students attending, thanks to sponsorship support. Students and educators alike emphasized the importance of such programs in enriching cultural awareness and education.
